Bucket Hat — Textiles

Bucket Hat  —  Textiles

In Textiles, we have been focusing on learning about how to understand Commerical Patterns and how to use them correctly. Using Commercial Patterns was very new to me, and enjoyed using them. Although it was confusing at first but not too hard to understand, once I got the hang of it I really enjoyed it and would like to continue using Commerical Patterns maybe in the ongoing years ahead.

What are Commercial Patterns?

Commercial patterns are worldwide patterns issued by the States, Canada and the UK,  used to create a specific piece of clothing for example the bucket hat or a cap.

What pattern did you use?
I used a Bucket Hat Pattern made by HelloSewing online. Overall, it was an easy pattern to follow and had clear instructions. The bucket hat has 5 parts and we printed out the commercial pattern templates to cut out our fabric. The 5 pieces of fabric are Top, Crown x2, and  Brim x2, the 2 crown and brim fabrics are sewn together to create a ring, the crown gets sewn together with the top, then sew the brim to the edge of the crown fabric. Once those steppes had been repeated for both patterns, I sewed them together to create the product that I have now.

Shooting the apple - Hope +Rebellion

Techniques:
Music, Lighting/Colour, Angles/Shots/Movement, Costume

Digenic Sound, Katniss - Dark, dim, artificial, Grey, black, blues, matches peers (not people but pieces of a game). Senica - Vibrant, bright, colour variety, pink. - more privileged/ individuals. Costume - Katniss, training suit, tributes all match. Capitol - Individuality, extravagant. Close-ups - See the reactions and the emotions of the characters, Katniss - pensive, shocked. High angle - once Katniss shoots the apple, makes her weak and vulnerable.

Atmosphere - Tension, Katniss comes out as the standout, someone to watch out for.

Change of rules - Struggle for power

Techniques:
Music, Lighting/colour, Angles/shots/movement, Costume

Music - Minor, slow, dramatic - building tension, emotional intensity as music gets louder. Lighting/Colour - Bright, Natural, warm, Green, Black, Grey, Shadowed - Rising of the sun - New day new victor. Costume - Not important. Angles/Shots/Movement - High Angle, The capitol/senica has power according to the camera placement, dialogue contradicts that. Close-ups - Emphasize emotions, defiance, obstinant, Stubborn. Katniss - won't let them have one victor. Peeta - Wouldn't let them change him

Atmosphere - Happy because katniss + Peeta took back control, if they died then they died by their own terms, didn't lose their humanity.

T A K O - Title, Author, Key aspects, Outline

Introduction - 'Hunger Games' directed by Gary Ross. Techniques are used to engage the viewer and tell the story.

SEXXXY Paragraphs

Brainstorm -
Music - Digetic
Angles/movement/shots - Over the shoulder - Shows speaker, puts us in listeners' pov, makes us part of the conversation. Close-ups - shows expression and emotion, nervous, anxiety, Mostly Peeta
Lighting/Colour - Mood - sad, gloomy - Grey dark shades, blacks - Dim lighting - works with c/u to highlight the facial features of characters.
Setting
Costumes + Makeup
Character/Diagolge - "I dont want them to change me " "I dont wanna be another piece in their game" "if im gonna die i still wanna be me"  Atmousphere - Foreboding, Nervous, Reluctant/Hesitant

Themes- Rich vs poor, Hope + rebellion, Struggle for power

What happened - Peeta and katniss are having a conversation about how the games might affect them.

SEXXXY Paragraph

In this scene 'They don't own me,' dialogue is used to form a forboding atmosphere. Katniss and Peeta are having a conversation about how the upcoming games might affect them. This is demonstrated by the quote "I don't want them to change me; and "if I'm going to die, I still wanna be me" spoken by Peeta. These show that Peeta senses that he is going to have to do things that he doesn't want to do, for example killing others. This makes the audience feel sorry for Peeta because he is going to lose his life, or his values in order to save his life. The director did this to make us believe Peeta will die early and that being a tribute isn't something to celebrate, but a loss of personal autonomy. This worked well with the dark colour palette of blacks and greys which add to the foreboding atmosphere. This aspect can be contrasted when Peeta joins the Career Pack once in the games because it contradicts his values of passive and peaceful which Peeta wanted to remain.

Symbols in Hunger games

Symbols In the hunger games -

Textiles (Commercial patterns)

Textiles  -

Currently, in textiles we are looking at commercial patterns, to further our learning of commercial patterns symbols and techniques we started the project of creating a bucket hat. We have been working on this project for 2 weeks now and I have almost completed my bucket hat and just have the finishing touches to make it look even better. I thought this was such a fun activity and didn't struggle too much with creating a bucket hat although this was my first time creating a piece of clothing. The bucket hat has two layers that can reverse to have 2 bucket hats in one. The hat is created by 5 pieces of fabric (Top, Crown, Brim) using the commercial patterns below, the 2 crown and brim fabrics are sewn together to create a ring, the crown gets sewn together with the top, then sew the brim to the edge of the crown fabric. Once those steppes had been repeated for both patterns, I sewed them together to create the product that I have now.

Character Strengths (The Hunger games)

CHARACTER STRENGTHS -

Katniss - Bravery, Hope, Forgiveness.  Peeta - Creativity, kindness, Social Intelligence. President Snow - Leadership, Social Intelligence.

How was the personality trait portrayed in the story?
Why is it important as a character Strength?

Katniss throughout the story shows bravery but one of her bravest moments was when she volunteered to take her sister's place in the hunger games, even though she knew it was almost certain death she sacrificed herself for her sister. She showed hope through her kindness and respect for rue and her life and seeing her as a person, not just a tribute. Forgiveness when Peeta viciously went behind her back and teamed up with her enemies to hunter her down and kill her. Katniss saw past Peeta's actions and forgave him and worked together in order to survive. It is important for katniss to have these characteristics as she brings the people hope and someone to lead them through her bravery, hope is important as it benefits the people and makes them strive for a better life. Forgiveness is important as it helps you move forward and further yourself and the other person.

Peeta shows creativity throughout the games in the way he chooses to survive for example he managed to camouflage himself to the ground in order to hide from the group of tributes hunting him. Kindness is shown when he chooses to hide rather than to take part in the brutal nature of the games, and when he offers to sacrifice himself in order for katniss to live and go back to her family. Social Intelligence as he puts on an act in order to impress and please the capitol public, getting the publics' favor meant more sponsors would root for him in the games increasing the chances of his survival. Creativity is important as it inspires and encourages people to do better, Kindness is important because its contagious, and if you show kindness other people will do the same and it will inspire people to do better. Social intelligence is important, especially in the hunger games as it means you understand and can manipulate the public to benefit yourself or the public itself.

President Snow shows leadership through leading and keeping the districts in peace, it may not be fair but it is peaceful. Social intelligence is by far his strongest strength as he is able to manipulate the capitol public into thinking the hunger games arent brutal or tragic, but a fun game to celebrate and bond over with other people. He is also able to manipulate the districts into thinking that the games are essential for peace and balance in the districts and the being chosen as a tribute is an honor, not a curse. Leadership is very important because with leadership comes order and peace to an unbalanced society, social intelligence is important as it makes you more self-aware of what is happening around you and how to react and make decisions based on that information.

Multiline Graph of Maori Population 1836 - 1901

The decline in Maori Population from 1836 - 1901

What does the graph show us?

In 1836 Maori population easily outnumbered the European population for 20 years the Maori population being 100k to 100. The Maori population began to decline from 1846 till 1881 where the population stabilized at 20 000 throughout the next 10 years from 1886 to 1896. From 1896 to 1901 the Maori population increased by 5000. While the Maori population was decreasing European populations were increasing rapidly. Europeans had a population of 100 for 10 years before starting to increase in 1846 to 10 000, from there on European populations skyrocketed reaching 790 000 people in 1901.

Why Do you think Maori numbers dropped?

Maori numbers began to drop when european population began to rise, this is because of the trading system between races, the maori provided the europeans with food and other survival resorces in return europeans would trade them muskeets with would aid the maori in war. Hence the muskeet wars began and thousands of maori people died fighting for land and utu.

Workshop #5 - Music

 Keywords -

Key - Major (happy) and Minor (Sad)

Tempo - Speed/Pace of music (Fast/ slow/ moderate)

Dynamics - Volume (Loud/Quiet)

RUES DEATH SCENE -

Minor key, the atmosphere that is created as a result is mournful, depressed, slow tempo adds to mournful effect, gradually comes into hearing range and slowlu grows into a soft quiet sound, creates a sad effect with the slow and quiet combination. Grows louder when she does the 3 finger salute to build tension and intensity that builds up to the riots in 11.

What happens in this scene - Rue is killed, katniss tries to give her body the closest thing to a burial that she can to show her respect for rue.
Colour/Lighting - White flowers, Natural lighting, Greens (White flowers symbolise innocence and purity, rue never killed anyone, she was kind and compassionate, the victim of the games and the capitol.)
Shots/Angles - Medium close-ups - Rue and Katniss, see their emotions + facial expressions - anguish
High angle - Weak and vulnerable - rue is innocent and is a blameless victim.
Effect on viewers - Atmosphere of remorse/intense sadness, as the volume increases it builds the intensity of the emotions portrayed in this scene. - we see emotions are contagious - hope.
Directors Purpose - Feel Katniss's emotions at that moment - Remorse, anger, hopelessness, acceptance, rebellion. - Symbol 3 finger salute is a sign of defiance and aggression towards the game makers - you will not take my humanity, and also a symbol of unification with those who have lost loved ones to the games.

Music is used to create an atmosphere of sorrow and remorse in Rue's death scene. In this scene, Rue is tragically killed and we see katniss dealing with the result of the slaughter of her friend. For Instance, The tempo of the music is slow, the dynamics are soft and quiet and the key is minor to reflect the emotional rollercoaster that Katniss is experiencing. Like the music, Katniss moves slowly and methodically to cover rues body in white flowers. As she finishes creating the burial for Rue the music builds in volume showing the increasing intensity of her anger and grief towards the capitol. This makes us understand the pain experienced by the families and friends of tributes that are brutally slaughtered each year. This was done to enable the audience to experience the characters' emotions. This worked well with the use of white flowers to symbolise rues innocence and purity, the high angle shot makes rue seem weak and vulnerable. Combined with the music we are shown that rue is a victim of the capitols cruelty.

Music Performance (Term 3)

Last term concluded with a study on a chosen instrument, I thought this was an excellent project as i was able to continue studying piano and got to practise further.

What i enjoyed -
I really enjoyed the project, being given the freedom of the instrument and piece of music made it even more enjoyable. The option to work in groups or set off independently into lots of available spaces to quietly practise by yourself or with classmates.
Skills Learnt -
As i continued on with pieces of music that were given to me during lessons, this meant i had more time to practise and further my ability in piano.
Did you perform/Record? -
At the time I didn't feel comfortable performing or recording as I had worked and a few different pieces and didn't feel a singular piece was at perfection yet, and due to the lack of time after being away for a few lessons contributed to my inability to perform or record.
Are You taking Music Next Year? -
I am planning to take music as a subject for ncea lvl 1 so i will continue in my study of piano as my prime instrument.
Middle C on the piano: Why is it so important?

Know Your place

Over the last half of the term, we have been focusing on the topic "know your place". This meant learning the history behind canterbury but also the modern canterbury and what new developments are being made to further expand it. For this assessment, we were tasked with using a relatively new tool that we experimented with on a topic a while ago called Prezi. We were then given questions about what canterbury is to you, The history of canterbury, What canterbury is like today, The canterbury environment, and landmarks around the canterbury area and their significance.

  • Hope and rebellion (3 finger solute- it is a sign of respect for katniss from the people of her district. First volenteer in the district, means she is a symbol of hope for a district with only one victor, a symbol of rebellion because she becasue she steps in for her sister (A weaker character) when nobody else would.
  • Rich vs Poor Symbol of rich = Effie Trinket, Extreme Makeup, excesive wig, hat, overly colourful and flashy outfit, proper accent. The Hungergames Quote Hunting

 Quote Hunting -

What am I learning?
Using the film "The hunger games" I am learning to hunt down quotes said in the film (Not the book) that reflect the main themes and ideas in a film.
How does this work show my learning?
This work shows my learning by highlighting different quotes and then underneath explaining how they represent a main theme in the film, I also added photos of the scene in which the quote was said to show people where in the movie the quote was said.
What am I wondering as a result?
I wonder if all films use these techniques and if I can now identify different themes and quotes in every film to gain a deeper meaning of the film.

(Text in case the words seem blurry on poster)

"Hope, it is the only thing stronger than fear. A little hope is effective, a lot of hope is dangerous."

President snow,  currently the most powerful individual in Panem is explaining to senica, the gamekeeper about how they use the games to manipulate the district's emotions in order to keep the power they have over them. When he says hope is the only thing stronger than fear, he puts that into play in the games by giving the districts singular winner giving the districts and the tributes hope that they will survive and bring "honour" to their district. That small sip of hope makes the games effective but contained as said in the quote "a lot of hope is dangerous." meaning that if too much hope is spread in the districts it will breed into rebellion and the fall of the capitol and their power over panem.  (STRUGGLE FOR POWER)

Haymitch: "Give them something to root for!"Seneca Crane: "What?"Haymitch Abernathy: "Young love."

During the middle of the games, senica is slowly losing his grasp over the districts as Katniss has become a symbol of hope for the districts, Senica is desperate to contain the hope and is talking with Haymitch when he proposes the idea of giving them a distraction from Katniss and her small hints of rebellion in the games by introducing the idea of young love between Peta and katniss to get people to root for their tragic yet heartwarming love story instead of her defiant acts against the capitol. The whole point of this scheme was to paint a different image of katniss from a solo symbol of hope for the districts, to a soft sweetheart tragically in love with another victor.  (HOPE AND REBELLION)

Peeta: "You definitely smell better than I do."Caesar: "Well I've lived here longer."

The interviews in the film was a way for the victors to present themselves to the capitol to gain the favor of individuals and therefore gain sponsors, When peeta's turn to speak with caesar came near the beginning of their conversation he compared how caesar smelt better, and cleaner than him, caesar replied saying its because he had lived in the capitol longer, implying that people in the capitol have more access to proper hygiene and the privilege of choosing your scent with perfumes,. Peeta however, an individual from district 12 one of the poorest districts dure to the distance from the capitol and the importance of their work, he didn't have the privilege of proper hygiene or a clean and safe place to live. To sum up the meaning behind the quote, caesar is stating that he smells better because he has lived in a secure, Hygenic place for longer than someone like peeta who originates from district 12 and only  just arrived in the capitol.

Themes and Ideas (ENG)

 Themes and ideas -

Rich vs poor - Some people have more
- Money - Privelleges - Respect -Food -Variety -Luxury -Cleanwater -Proper housing -technology -Good health(medicines) -Fashion/clothing -Transport -Fewer responsibilities -protection/security -

Hope + Rebellion - Hope breeds rebellion, if you have hope you have the motivation to rebel.
- HOPE The belief that something will get better - REBELLION to fight against something in order to make the change to be better.  (Protest , Uprise, usually against the image of power)
Symbols of hope - Katniss, Melodic motive, Mockingjay, three-finger salute, two victors,

Struggle for power - with privilege comes power.
The capitol has power (President snow) Katniss is becoming a threat to snow as he is loosening the reins of snows power over panem - People look up to katniss for guidance giving her more power, katniss becomes a threat because snow sees her as one. "Hope, it is the only thing stronger than fear. A little hope is effective, a lot of hope is dangerous." - president snow
FEAR - People are afraid of rebelling, because of the consequences of an uprising in the past.  When the rebellion was lost to the capitol they were punished with the hunger games and district 13 the leaders of the protest was destroyed.
LITTLE HOPE - Surviving by becoming the victor, being bathed in riches and being presented with the privilage of a normal life.
DANGEROUS HOPE - That all victors will join together and win as one, therfore the districts deserve to be treated better

Power of propaganda - Information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a political cause or point of view. - Message being told, It's not worth rebelling, capitol is strongest, the structure of Panem under the capitols control brings peace and balance.
LANGUAGED USED - "peacekeepers" Someone who keeps the peace - soldiers who brutally/violently force structure in society. look like stormtroopers to mark them as a nameless soldiers who can't take blame.
"Victor" Someone who wins, becomes respected, and is wealthy and lucky - A violent murderer who was living off the lives of 23 other people. Live with trauma and guilt.
"Fallen"
Propaganda - People who die in the games Takes the brutal reality of the situation (Paints a softer picture of people falling rather than being brutally murdered in the unnecessary games.) It suggests something more peaceful rather than violent.
Reality - Teenagers/Children who have been killed or murdered/ Very violent
"Tribute"
Propaganda - Two brave young people, An honor to be selected as a tribute - and honor to die,
Reality - Is a sacrifice and a punishment to the districts for rebelling.

Rich vs Poor - People in the capitol vs people in the districts - Compare opening shot in 12 vs peta looking out the window of the capitol -

District 12 - Poor, Houses are made of wood and scraps (Not in good condition), Very little food available *See old man picking at a bone*, 1 pair of good clothing for the reaping, Other clother are worn, faded, grey and black clothing as easier to look cleaner aka to not show coal dust,

Capitol - Houses are large and modern design, have metal and materials available for housing. Food - have a variety of food available to choose from - more than enough excess, Clothing is colourful, extravagant and fashionable there is excess.

Hope + Rebellion - Covo between president snow + senica craine - a little hope quote, Convo between Hamich and senica = give them something to root for *Distract them* aka young love

Struggle for power - Katniss + Peta's double suicide attempt in the arena with berries. The death of rue = Riot in district 11

Power of propaganda - Subtle. Hunger games film at the beginning of reaping.

"I volunteer as tribute" -

  • Katniss volunteers as tribute for her sister prim, the peacekeepers let go and let her talk to her sister.
  • Effie has bright colors and extreme wigs and makeup whereas katniss has faded clothes and brown hair
  • Everyone solutes to katniss showing rebellion and hope.

Film Study - Visual And Sound Techniques

 BRAINSTORMING -

CROSSWORD

What does music mean to me?

 Have you studied music before?

I have taken music as a subject as soon as it became available to me last year for the first semester then I choose it as a subject again as one of my options for the first semester this year.

What type of music do you enjoy listening to and why?

I don't have a specific type of music that I listen to but I prefer musicians and bands that emphasize instruments and the bass and song which feature instrumentals or an instrument solo rather than the main focus on vocals.

Name 3 bands/singers you enjoy listening to and why?

The main band i can think of currently is muse as they are masters of their instruments and are very creative when putting together songs and bringing elements and sections of the song together. Their songs are always unique and fun to listen to.

What would you like to learn in music this term?

I would like to learn more about deciphering pieces of music and what makes a good piece of music that is enjoyable to listen to and unique to us and the meaning behind it, then how we can create music ourselves.

Why did you choose music?

I chose music to

Boat Racing

We decided to do something different rather than working through our scipads, for the past weeks we have been working on designing and creating our own wind yachts so that we can race them, calculate the speed and see how forces work when we use a wind blower, we also went over aerodynamics and how we can improve the speed.

AIM - Our goal was to create a yacht that would be pushed a reasonable distance when pushed using a leaf blower.

METHOD -

1 - Design on paper the base and the sails of the yacht and keeping in mind aerodynamics and how we can make the yacht as fast as possible.

2 - Gather the materials that you need to create the yacht -
Plastic bag
Cart/with wheels
Bamboo stick
Tape
Scissors
Popsicle sticks
Skewers
Leaf Blower (Wind source)

3 - Put together your yacht using the materials that you have available (We used the plastic bag for the sails and the skewers and bamboo stick for the framework, The popsicle sticks to make a sloped surface so that the air could fly past easier)

4 - Using a measuring tape and a stopwatch, line up your yacht and turn on the leaf blower aiming it at the sails and measure the speed and the distance it traveled.

5 - Using the results from the race, calculate the speed.

RESULTS -

Miah = 2.6m(Distance) 13.6s(Time) 0.191m/s(Speed)
Kade = 4.2m(distance) 6.4s(Time) 0.656m/s(Speed)
Jayden = 1.7m(Distance) 7.3s(Time) 0.233m/s(Speed)
Ranit = 1m(Distance) 4s(Time) 0.25m/s(Speed)
Aili = 4.5m(Distance)7.3s(Time) 0.616m/s(Speed)

CONCLUSION -

The fastest yacht that we raced was Kade's yacht which raced at a speed of 0.656m/s closely followed up by Aili's team with a speed of 0.616m/s. This was due to the size of their sails being less aerodynamic, with bigger sails more of the wind tat was produced by the leaf blower got caught in the sail, accelerating the yacht forward at a higher speed. Opposed to tat mias yact travelled at te lowes speed because te sail was smaller meaning it caught less of te wind to accelerate it forward and oppose te oter forces at play, wic was te weight force, support force and te friction force.

Matariki

The past few weeks have been filled with fun, learning, and creativity,  all connecting to our topic of Matariki. There are 2 parts to our assessment and I found the research task to be the hardest as it took the longest and most dedication and effort to complete.  Although I enjoyed both of the tasks working on keyboard skills and learning new pieces, all of which had a stars theme to tie into our main topic matariki was my favorite part of the assessment, followed up closely by the research task as I learned a whole lot about the celebration of Matariki, About the stars, and what they represent in Maori culture, And traditions in Maori culture around Matariki. I have been more focused recently on completing my slideshow about the Matariki research to the best it can be and although I think if I had more time there is always room to improve I'm still happy with the output. Here is my slideshow

Waste Graph

What can be done to reduce what goes into your rubbish bin?

Some of the best ways to reduce how much is being discarded into the bins, are to reuse containers or packaging that you may be useful in the future, such as plastic containers, bags, jars, ice-cream containers, etc this prevents the need to purchase containers to store leftover food or other items. Another solution is to reduce how much u purchase from the beginning, instead of grabbing the first item you see looks for items that have recyclable packaging by checking for the symbol on the box or container.

Where was the majority of waste going? Waste/Recycling/Compost?

The majority of my waste was going into the compost bin with 15 pieces of rubbish going into the compost bin over the span of 3 days, this was closely followed up by my waste total with 13 pieces of rubbish going into the waste bin, lastly, I had 9 pieces of rubbish that ended up being recycled.

Did you find one day had more waste than any other day? Why?

I found that i had the most compost waste on Friday when i attended school and they provided

English Creative writing

  Brainstorming -

HunterSwoop -

Top Left -
Tears of muddy black dirt stream down the walls, splotches of light scatter the darkness that tries to conceal the writing of other's presence from the past.

Top Right -
The mirrored wall projects the same image of the ocean surface of dirt streaming down into a waterfall of mud streaming down the engraved lines sectioning the walls.

Bottom -
Three paths lie ahead each side rise above the middle, one path broken into sections with dirt and moss creeping into the cracks, the other 2 paths are smooth, reflecting the gradient of darkness to the white of flickering lights.  From the dim lights, the silhouette of a frail human stands out among the grey of the paths, the dark shadow melting into the darkness lurking behind.

Waste Article

Waste has been a big problem over the past year ever since the lockdown where the  EcoCentral closed its recycling operations for four weeks, leading the to council tell the residents they could put any rubbish that could not fit in a red wheelie bin into the yellow one. Even though this rule was temporary its till a continued practice by the residents and the number of recycling trucks that have had to be dumped due to the high percentage (Over 10%) of waste in one day was equal to the number of trucks that were dumped in the previous year. To prevent this from happening the council has gotten extremely strict as to what people are putting in their recycling bins by reviewing what people have in their bins and giving out warning stickers on the recycling bins that contain red bin waste. Residents receive a total of 3 warnings before their yellow bins are confiscated completely, since the warning system was applied 664 yellow bins have been removed, To get the bins back, people have to pay $97.65 and sign a statement promising to abide by the rules. Their bins would be monitored to make sure they kept that promise.

The only items that can go in the yellow bin are:

Clean plastic bottles and containers (3 liters and under) numbered 1 are things like soft drink bottles

English Work

 Brainstorming -

Hunterswoop -

Top Left - The suspiciously dark midnight blue sky rests over the top of the fluff of the white clouds that mark the horizon. The White orb, the singular hole in the ocean of solid blue hangs high in the sky slightly off-centered.

Top Right - A slight gradient of dark blue colors the sky hovering over the volcano of deformed white cloud that shelters the horizon.

Bottom - The Artificial Aquatic blue breaks way to a cylinder can, staying buoyant on a slight angle, preventing the blue jelly-looking water of the sea from taking up residence inside the can. The solid color of the blue hints to a shallow surface resting below, a swimming pool? a sandy tropical beach? The horizon suggests differently.

Middle -  The roof of the can stands verticle, pried open giving way to the head of a small almond brown mouse pokes out from the matte grey can, its beady black eyes staring endlessly forward, frozen in the fear of its surroundings. Preserving the brown of its soft fur from the sun is a black funeral cliche umbrella angled towards the sun.

Creative Writing Task - (Mirror, Mirror)

In the morning when you look in the mirror you expect to see your dull sleepy face staring back at you, and you sleepily mumble the words "I look like shit" to yourself. Well, not today! Today when I woke up I was expecting to see my pale face looking back but when I glanced in the direction of the mirror I wasn't there! I couldn't for the life of me figure out why! I even ran to my sibling's room, the bathroom, the living room  I checked every mirror in the house, and my silhouette just wouldn't appear. At this point my thought process was "Wait, what if I'm invisible, is this my superpower, ARE SUPERPOWERS REAL??" "No you idiot" A low husky voice responds shutting my thought process down completely. I was so focused and confused at why I wasn't showing up in the mirror that I brushed of the remark completely and stumbled down the hallway to find my phone and see if I showed up in the camera. To my disappointment, there I was, the blurry image of a sleep-deprived teenager looking panicky into the camera lens. "At least your hair looks lighter and curlier today" the voice, louder this time echos through my room. I freeze searching for the source of the voice, "did somebody sneak into my room to compliment me?" I search under the bed, in the wardrobe, under my desk, behind the curtains, until finally my gaze rests on the blank mirror, as soon as i look at it the mirror starts firing a full military report on my appearance, not missing a single centimeter of my body, from what I'm wearing to the expression I'm making.

Hunter Swoop -

TOP RIGHT -

The long streaks of black licorice trees loom over the shadows blocking the light from exposing the maze of branches and bark.

TOP LEFT -

Trees crowd, less dense this time, on the wavering horizon, welcoming the light to shine over the entangled forest of branches and twigs.

BOTTOM -

The black inky water reflects almost another world, a darker, dramatic, and dreadful world. Splotches of dead, barren leaves stain the perfect world, removing the perfect illusion of another world altogether.

MIDDLE -

Damp autumn leaves blanket the ground softening each step up to the inky water, I can feel the withered trees looming over me, their presence ever in my mind for what they could be hiding, or who they could be hiding. Cautiously kneeling down to the water reveals a young girl with fiery gold hair glaring back at me, almost unrecognizable in her state, but not quite.
