LED LIGHTING!

For the past week, we have been working on yet another fun project. The Item that we made is an LED light stand when it is plugged in will light up the acrylic strip. We started off by glueing five strips of wood together, then threading the LED ribbon through the gap in the wood. We then finished our project off by designing and laser cutting our stips of acrylic. This was a very cool project and the end product turned out AMAZING, this was a lot of fun to do.

Renewable Energy

Aim: To make a presentation that investigates different renewable energy.
Section 1: Title Page

Section 2: Definitions
Hydro Energy
Hydro Energy is created when water rushes through the dam and pushes a turbine which creates electricity.
Solar Energy
Solar energy is created from light and heat from the sun which is harnessed by a solar panel or other objects.
Wind Energy
Wind energy is the use of wind to provide mechanical power through turbines to turn electric generators which creates energy.

Wave Energy
Wave energy is created when people harness the current of the waves to create energy.

Section 3; Investigate each of the 4 Energy types.
(Hydro, Solar, Wind, Wave )

Hydro-

Wind-

Solar-

Wave-

Section 4: Renewable Energy in the future.

List 10 ways that renewable energy will be used in the future to replace our current activities.

Electric Cars
Electric Heating
Using renewable energy for trains
Electric public transport
Electronic machines (Robots, production machines)
Electronic Machines (diggers, etc)
Renewable energy Factories
Renewable energy household items (ovens, fridges, etc)
Renewable energy light bulbs
Renewable energy outlets (Powers phones, computers, etc)

My Carbon Foot Print Pledge

Today in Science we got given a sheet which we colored in, in blue what we are currently doing. Then in pink, we color in what we want to start doing. Five things that I want to start doing are. 1. to check labels of food to try and buy more local foods. 2. To shop as little as possible and am considerate of the environment. 3. To reduce the amount of meat I consume. 4. Use energy-efficient light bulbs and turn everything off every chance I get. 5. To conserve water every chance I get. Those were the five things that I want to start doing to shrink my carbon footprint.

LASER CUTTING!

For the past few weeks in term 4, we have been doing digital tech. In digital tech, we have been exploring cool sites like tinker cad and Thingiverse, were we design things like keyring name tags and all sorts of other things. We have also learned about the equipment that we use the create our desired object aka the laser cutter. During these four weeks of Digitech, I have designed and produced a nametag, and 2 keyrings. The first thing I designed and created was the Nametag which I designed on Tinkercad after spending an hour of sandpit time on Tinkercad It didn't take me long to design a name tag that I was happy with. The second thing I created was a keyring with my name on it. When I created this used a template that our teacher had sent us. To create the keyring we used an app called LaserWorks V8 that was where we added our names on the blank template and then cut our project out using the laser cutter. For my third and final project I yet again used another template but this time I used the laser cutter app and put an image onto the keyring. These were all the projects I had created.

Sea Levels

Aim; To look at the different ways we can prevent climate change in the future.

What places will be affected?
Pacific Islands, Coastal areas,

What else do we need to think about?

What other places around NZ will be affected?

What does this do to our drinking water?
The people who live on the coast's water supply in the ground will become salty water.

What are the main concerns?
  1.    People who live on the coast will have no homes.

What can we do?
  1. Use more public transport.  (Create Less Carbon Dioxide)
  2. Walk to school (scooter, Bike)
  3.  Use fuel efficent veachels  (hybrid cars or Electric cars)

What is the one, silver bullet solution?
There is no silver bullet.

What is the mix of things we need to start doing?
  1.  Use renewable energy
  2.   Solar heating
  3.  Stop using cars that depend on fossil fuels.
What are 3 others you can think of?
  1.  Use more public transport
  2.  Walking or biking instead of creating carbon dioxide
  3.  Recycle or reuse your things instead of putting them in the compost.
Activities:

Carbon Footprint

Carbon Footprint explained

Dwelling
Water
Recreation
Heating and cooling
Electricity
Transportation
Food
Waste
Air Travel
Consumption

Colour 1: for actions, they are already doing
Colour 2: for actions that they pledge to undertake in the future

Ecological Handprint The Ecological handprint builds on the concepts from the Carbon Footprint. We will look at the positive actions of:

  1. Transportation
  2. Community
  3. Consumption
  4. Water
  5. Food
  6. Home
  7. Waste

    Showing Emotion!

For this activity, we have to watch videos of actors acting out emotions in a movie clip. Then we have to list three emotions that we saw and how they acted out the emotion. For the movie clip, I decided to choose Rowan Atkinson in "Mr. Bean."

Link To The Mr. Bean Clip.

He was feeling shocked and surprised when he sneezed and his sandwich and drink went flying.
He showed this by shaking, Looking around in confusion and his body posture and facial expression.

He was feeling proud of himself when he successfully finished making his lunch.
He showed this by Sitting up straight and using his body language and happy emotions on his face.

He felt grateful and happy when the guy offered him a sandwich.
He showed this by smiling at him then followed by the plug for the hot water bottle popped out of his ear. He also finished with a thank you while smiling gratefully.
