Dr Zeus

Today in Drama we did an activity where we create a performance out of a quote by Dr. Zeus. My Quote was "Sometimes you will never know the value of moments until they become a memory." I did my performance in a group, Ella, Damien, Tamsyn and me. We entered the front of the stage walking emotionlessly to the middle of the stage where we created a freeze-frame of us as besties having a good time together. Ella then spoke in a sad tone the first half of the quote, then paused and we split up and sloped to the different parts of the stage. While looking sad and depressed Ella then spoke out the rest of the quote.

Real Vs Fake News

For the past couple of weeks in One of our hurumanus, Power to the people (Social Studies & English) we have been working on the independent matrix one of the matrix tasks was about real vs fake news where we had to learn about trustworthy sites and how to tell the difference between real information and fake information. During this activity, I learned who to ask and how to gather evidence to prove that the story is true. For this activity we worked off of slides and independently worked down the slides, some slides included videos and questions whereas some had activities on them.

One of the activities was creating a fake story about Hornby high or around the community. I choose to do a story about a girl being totally embarrassed by her dad. We then had to 3 truths to the story so I added in some details of things that have happened to me before. After completing our story we buddied up with a friend then switched stories and wrote a news report on our friend's story. After writing a news report on my friend's work I then had to answer some questions about my own story, for example, how would I gather evidence to prove this is true?

Once I completed that activity I had to do another one about a piece of news that has gone viral lately, I choose to do the coronavirus. During this activity, I had to look at websites and gather info from them then answer questions about my research. Altogether this took a while for me to complete but it was really fun.

Real vs Fake News (Questions)

How could this impact the American Election and how people vote?

It would encourage The pope Francis’s supporters to vote for trump as they trust Pope Francis’s decisions and beliefs.

This claim was not true.

Have you ever shared a story like this?
No.

How can mistakes like this go viral on social media without anyone checking?

Because people believe that everything that is shown on the internet is true and because they thought the story was interesting and so many people had shared the story.

It was just a joke.

Is there a risk people on social media might still believe this is true?

Real vs Fake News (Proving Your Story)

  1. Ask your friend who was there, and where it was when the story took place. Then Ask around to see if people have evidence to prove that her story is true.

STORYTIME!

I was at school one day and as I was entering I saw my dad in the corner of my eye, I continued to walk to class thinking that I had just miss seen him. During the 3rd period, we had a hui so like always we lined up and slowly walked over. On the way to the auditorium, I saw my dad AGAIN! I walked in and saw my sister Ella, I slinked over to her to ask if she had seen my dad but she denied it completely. I sat down and watched in horror as the most cringy song came on and my dad with a whole lot of other dads walked onto the stage dancing.

I closed my eyes and slunk down becoming one with my chair as my friend’s dad jumps on stage and starts singing a special song just for her, I couldn’t help laughing. But that was only the beginning All the dads slowly made their way into the audience desperately searching for their kids then dragging them on stage where they danced around them trying to get them to dance. I dodged a bullet there, my dad got to my sister first so she got sacrificed as I watched through the cracks of the chairs in front of me.

Then after what felt like hours on end of watching my dad prance around my sister who had gone completely white from embarrassment, it finally ended. I snuck out with my friend and sprinted to the cover of the classrooms, only to notice they were locked :[
We then dashed into the bathrooms locked the door and sat in silence…….
I thought I could recover but I and my friend are now in a mental Institution still scarred from that day at school.  Just kidding, but I never forgave my dad and my sister moved out to live with our nana.

BREAKING NEWS! - By Emily

Real Vs Fake News (Young Reporter)

The Corona Virus -
A deadly virus that is said to come from animals and it started with an outbreak at a seafood market in Wuhan. The study estimated nearly 60,000 people might have traveled to almost 400 cities worldwide before the Wuhan authorities had imposed a ban on travel.

Who- Corona Virus
Ministry Of Health - Corona Virus
BBC News - Corona Virus
The NewYork Times - Corona Virus

How do the stories differ?

Some stories say that the virus originally came from a laboratory when some say that it came from animals. Some news articles show a map which is said to be misleading when it shows that no country is safe from the virus.

What parts of the story are the same?

Most of the coronavirus symptoms include a runny nose, sore throat, cough, and fever.  It can be more severe for some people and can lead to pneumonia or breathing difficulties.  More rarely, the disease can be fatal. Older people and people with pre-existing medical conditions such as diabetes and heart disease are more vulnerable to be severely affected by the virus.

What about Images?

Look At the dates of the reports- Are some written or updated later than others?

I can’t find the dates for when the sites were published.

New York Times Was last updated 10minutes ago (1 pm)
(Now saying that Japan prepare to release more cruise ship passengers)

BBC News published their article on the 19th February 2020

Have you found any that seem dubious or have information in them that others don’t’ have? Have they got a scoop - or have they made a mistake or are they making a joke? Perhaps they are reporting rumor? Is any of it “fake news”?

No, all the sites have proven their information is true and have facts and live updates on what is happening.

Discuss your findings with each other and see which reports you feel are the most trustworthy.

We feel as though we trust the articles written by who (world health organization)

What have you discovered about reporting techniques?

Some news agencies come up with fake news to catch the attention of others wich ends up spreading fake news. Whereas some reporters use true stories but change it around to make it more interesting. But there are some who hear rumors and write about that thinking its true.

How do social media sites differ from news agencies?
On social media, people post on what they have heard without any evidence. News Agencies dig deeper to get more information to write about.

Do they use the same images and the same interviews, quotes, and eyewitnesses?

Most of the time no, Social media posts on about what they know and don’t usually interview people but social media does use quotes from people they may hear off of the news or other social media platforms.

Have your opinions changed about where you might look for reliable information?

Yes, I know now that not all sites are true and its best to stay with professional sites and to not believe everything you may see online.

Wellbeing

In health, we have been focusing on the four walls of wellbeing. Whare Tapa Wha is about a whare that represents the four walls of our wellbeing, Tane Wairua, Taha Whanau, Taha Tinana, Taha Hinengaro and it shows that without a strong wall then the whole thing collapses. During these lessons, I participated well.  I contributed by completing the work on time to the best of my ability, Next time I'm going to talk less and ask when I don't know what I'm doing. My Hauora is well, But I know I need to work on my physical health. I could do this by spending more time outside with friends and getting away from my Devices

Look In the mirror poem.
Image result for music

I look in the mirror and what do I see?

A tall, talkative, kind person staring back at me.

I’m really good at reading.

And love music.

And spend lots of time with family and friends.

And I can’t wait till I’m old enough to travel around the world.

I could improve my social skills

And dancing is hard for me, ‘

But I know if I try, ill be the best I can be.
