Journey Through Time

For four weeks  I am Going to be doing the summer learning journey about the history of New Zealand. This is the second week of my journey and the fifth day.

Activity one

For this activity we have to research a cathedral in New Zealand and on our blog put a picture of the cathedral and under it we have to put the name, location and when it was built.

The name of this cathedral is St Mary's Cathedral located in wellington and was opened in 1851 but was destroyed by a fire in 1898.

Activity two

For this activity we have to write down what we think about the fact that women in Saudi Arabia weren't allowed to vote until 2015. Is it fair why or why not?

I think it is just stupid ,i just do not get it if men have the right then why not women it is completely not fair because women should be able to vote for what they think as well as men.

Bonus Activity

For this activity we have to read an Anzac poem and we have to write down how if makes us feel?,what you think of it? and do you like it or not?

As soon as I started to read the poem it struck me with sadness but also grateful that they sacrificed their lives for our freedom.I think this poem is so touching and sad but it is a beautiful poem.

Journey Through Time

For four weeks  I am Going to be doing the summer learning journey about the history of New Zealand. This weeks activity's are about the begging. And today is the fourth day of my journey

Activity one

For this activity we have a phrase in part English at part Te Reo Maori and we have to translate what the phrase says in both Te Reo Maori and English.

English =
Welcome to New Zealand
____ is my name.
What is your name?
I like to play rugby.
Where do you come from?

Te Reo Maori =
Nau mai ki Aotearoa.
____ ko toku ingoa.
He aha to ingoa?
E pai ana ahau ki te takaro i te whutupaoro.
No hea koe?

Activity two

For this activity we have to follow a link to read about the village of Waitangi and we have to write three fun things you can do as a visitor there and which one would be the one you want to do the most.

1. the first thing you can do is take an amazing tour along the Waitangi river in a 40 ft waka starting at 9am on Tuesday Thursday Saturday Sunday during the summer months

2. Another thing to do is there is always live Kapa Haka performances on regularly.

3. Also you can explore the small semi formal garden surrounding the treaty house.

Out of all of these the one I would want to do the most would be the tour across Waitangi River.

Bonus Activity

For this activity we have to imagine that we are interviewing Bill kini and we have to ask him four questions and write them down.

1 My first question I would ask would be why did you chose heavyweight boxing and rugby ?

2 I Think the second question I would ask would be what inspired you to go to the Commonwealth games ?

3 Another question would be how much would you have to train a week ?

4 Also did you have a special diet during training ?

Journey Through Time

For four weeks  I am Going to be doing the summer learning journey about the history of New Zealand. This weeks activity's are about the begging. Today is the second day of my journey.

Activity one

For this activity we had to describe the difference between a normal house and a wharepuni which is a Maori place were they slept.

The Differences between a house and a Wharepuni

A  house is normally made out of bricks, but a Wharepuni is made out of timber and bark.
A  house has more than one room but a Wharepuni has one big room.
Most  houses have carpet but a wharepuni has cold hard floors.

Activity two
For this task we have to draw a picture of what we want to be when we grow up. For this one I found it quite easy because I have always wanted to be a writer.

Bonus activity

For this activity we have to take a picture of our favourite food and say what it is and why it is our favourite food and include the recipe if we know it.

My favourite food would have to be chocolate pudding because it is warm and moist in the middle and has a warm thick chocolatey sauce and it also really good with ice cream and its quite easy to make because it is self saucing the recipe is =

1. Preheat oven to 180 c.
2. Grease a a medium baking dish about 20x15cm with butter.
3. Bring a full kettle to boil.
4. In a medium bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of milk, 1 egg,and 1/2 cup of melted butter.
5. In a different large bowl sieve 1 cup of flour,1 teaspoon of baking powder and two tablespoons of coco       powder, then stir in 1/2 cup of brown sugar.
6. Slowly add the wet mix to the flour mix and whisk gently together until smooth and mixed in.
7. Pour into prepared dish and smooth it out.
8. In a small bowl add 3/4 of a cup of brown sugar ,sieve in 2 tablespoons of coco powder then sprinkle it       over the pudding.
9. Slowly pour hot water over the pudding evenly.
10. Place the dish over a tray to stop spills and put it in the oven for 25-30 mins. Serve immediately while still warm, enjoy.

Journey Through The Time

For four weeks  I am Going to be doing the summer learning journey about the history of New Zealand. This weeks activity's are about the begging. Today is the first day of my journey.

Activity one

For this activity we had to read a text called  Maui and the giant fish then we had to write three interesting facts about Maui and add what other stories we have heard about Maui. For this task I found it easy to find a couple of facts but found it challenging to find a third one.

Interesting facts about Maui

1. I learnt that Maui had always wanted to go fishing with his older brothers.
2. I learnt that Maui wove his fishing line from flax.
3. I learnt that Maui used his blood as bait.

Activity two

For this activity we had to think that we were sailing thousands of miles on one of the wakas on our way to New Zealand and your writing a letter to one of your friends telling them about our voyage to New Zealand. And also telling them how you feel about moving to a different country. For this activity I found it easy to imagine what it would be like crossing the wild sea but I found it hard to imagine what it would be like leaving home and moving to a different country.

     Dear Emily

Wow it has been an amazing journey across the sea but I am very tired and  I wish I was back                  home. it is very scary out here the waka has nearly flip a couple of times when we are court up in the storms. I am also very existed but really nervous about going to a different country what if  there are creatures that kill you in the night? I hope you write to me soon.

     From Lucy

Bonus activity

For this activity we had to watch a video about people racing in wakas as a sport called Waka Ama  and our task was to decide if we would want compete in a Waka Ama one day. For me it was hard to decide if I wanted too or not. But it was really easy to back up my answer either way.

For me it would have to be a no because I would hate it out in a lake, river ,thing going so fast when it could easily tip over in a second. Also it would get so tiring paddling as hard as you can. But on the other hand it would be fun and a great experience.
