Journey Through Time

For four weeks  I am Going to be doing the summer learning journey about the history of New Zealand. This weeks activity's are about the begging. And today is the fourth day of my journey

Activity one

For this activity we have a phrase in part English at part Te Reo Maori and we have to translate what the phrase says in both Te Reo Maori and English.

English =
Welcome to New Zealand
____ is my name.
What is your name?
I like to play rugby.
Where do you come from?

Te Reo Maori =
Nau mai ki Aotearoa.
____ ko toku ingoa.
He aha to ingoa?
E pai ana ahau ki te takaro i te whutupaoro.
No hea koe?

Activity two

For this activity we have to follow a link to read about the village of Waitangi and we have to write three fun things you can do as a visitor there and which one would be the one you want to do the most.

1. the first thing you can do is take an amazing tour along the Waitangi river in a 40 ft waka starting at 9am on Tuesday Thursday Saturday Sunday during the summer months

2. Another thing to do is there is always live Kapa Haka performances on regularly.

3. Also you can explore the small semi formal garden surrounding the treaty house.

Out of all of these the one I would want to do the most would be the tour across Waitangi River.

Bonus Activity

For this activity we have to imagine that we are interviewing Bill kini and we have to ask him four questions and write them down.

1 My first question I would ask would be why did you chose heavyweight boxing and rugby ?

2 I Think the second question I would ask would be what inspired you to go to the Commonwealth games ?

3 Another question would be how much would you have to train a week ?

4 Also did you have a special diet during training ?

  1. Kia Ora Lucy,

Well done, on your translations! Did you know any of the words or did you use google translate for them all? When I was in high school we learnt some Te Reo Maori, so there are a few words and phrases here that I knew. I would have never know He pai taku ki te takaro i te whutupaoro! Have you had a chance to learn Te Reo Maori ?

You have picked three great things to do at Waitangi. I think the tour along the Waitangi river would be the best, especially going up the river to see the Haruru Falls. I have driven to the see the Falls before but I would love to kayak up the river with friends and see the Falls from a kayak! Have you ever been to the Treaty Grounds at Waitangi?

These are some great questions for Bill Kini. The answers would give a great insight the behind the scenes training on his run up to boxing matches and big rugby games. I think it would have taken a great deal of commitment to go to the Commonwealth Games. If you had the chance to compete in an event at the Commonwealth Games, what would it be?

    Keep up the great work!
