Tour Of New Zealand Day One Task One

Today we have started a activity that we are doing for the whole week. Our topic is new Zealand and our WALT is to learn more about new Zealand so today's task was about Auckland  and here are the activity that we did.

 Our first task was to Read about the people of New Zealand and then choose three interesting facts to post on your blog. The facts had to be written in our own words.


Activity One

Fact one
I found out that the maori people voyaged for thousands of miles across the pacific ocean  in small canoes that were built to go sail over the ocean.

Fact two
New zealand's european pioneers were also brave,strong and independent. Before building farms and buildings they had to clear the land which is a hard and dangerous activity. And with new zealander having no protection meant that  the elements forced the young new zealanders to become tough and multi skilled.

Fact three

Kiwis have been discovering and inventing things. Many of the things we have created were made in a backyard.even though the frozen meat, the Hamilton jet boat and the bungey jump are the most famous ones there are many others.

Calendar Art

This past week we have been creating our calendar art.We had three choices one was to draw lots of harts or do a koru and finally we had the City Scape and I chose the City Scape. Our first step was to draw a grid and then on the grid we drew a City Scape. Soon after we painted the buildings each building was a different color but the boxes inside the building were the same color but a different shade, and for the sky we did lots of different shade of blue. our last step was to out line the buildings with a vivid and draw windows and doors.Here is my masterpiece.

My Logo

For the past term we have been learning and creating logos.The whole point of learning about logos was because all of the schools in this area have been asked to create a logo for Uru Manuka. To practice we designed and made a logo for ourselves.We started off by looking at different fonts,colors,shapes and patterns.After we started to design our logo in our project book every one had at least 6 or 7 designs by the time we started creating.Once we had decided which one we were going to create we opened up a google drawing and started creating. Here is my end result.

Complex Sentences

This week we have been learning about complex sentences. To create complex sentences we had to learn what a complex sentence needs.A complex sentence is basically two simple sentences joined together. A complex sentence needs to have at least two verbs and a conjunction to join each simple sentence together. After we had learnt what a complex sentence needs we started to make our own our teachers gave us a picture to make a complex sentence about.After we had made complex sentence  our teachers gave us another picture and we had to write a short description using complex sentences about the picture.Here is some of my complex sentences and my short description.

My Description



The night had come… the battle of the giants. It was mid night when they attacked but it was strange they had trumpets?They had masks and big cloaks. Everyone fled but once they arrived they put down their suitcases blew their trumpets ad revealed themselves they all had big ears? It was the bfg apocalypse.The huge bfg well one of the bfgs opened his suitcase to reveal a disco ball and the other one of the bfgs pulled out gallons of frobscottle. Everyone at the castle was partying all night. In the morning the Queen work with a horrible sight there was thousands of bfgs lying every where between millions of people.There was food every where, the top of the castle had broken off and one of the bfgs where having a bath in her pool. She froze with fear then fainted and that was the end.

BREAD!

last week we made bread so for writing we made a recount about making bread our WALT was to To Write a Recount about making bread with the correct structure and a hook.

File:Hungarian white bread.jpg - Wikimedia CommonsBread,Bread,Bread  fascinating Bread is… last week the year five and six made bread. The teachers decide that it was going to be a cool idea to make bread because it would link to our healthy eating that we were working on for our inquiry.

First off we washed our hands then came rushing back hoping for the prize of having a front row look at the bread making. When we huddled round the table we could see that all the equipment was already laid out on the table. Once everyone was back our teacher started measuring out all the dry ingredients and putting them in a bowl. Everyone watched carefully to what happened hoping that something surprising will happen.  Mrs Jack stirred the dry ingredients together then started adding the liquid ingredients together. After the yeast and the dough was made we combined them together.

Once we combined the ingredients together Mrs Jack started kneading the dough. She pushed her heel of her hand down into the dough and then folded it over again and again. We kneaded the dough to spread the air bubbles and  that was when the surprising moment came the sound of the popping bubbles… Every one looked so scared. I mean it's just popping bubbles. After the popping stopped we stared at the dough being put into the bowl and there and then was were we were separated. I was so excited to see how much it would have grown. Mrs jack told us that to make the bread rise it needs yeast to make the air bubbles and that's why the bread rises because the air bubbles grow. For the bubbles to grow it needs to trap the heat and be put in a warm place so we put a tea towel over the bowl and put it on the shelf.

We left the dough to rise for about an hour until the dough had grown at least twice the size of its original size. So once it had grown we took it out of the bowl and kneaded it again and then we formed its shape and left it to rise again. After it had risen up again we put it in the oven for an hour until it was golden brown and sounds hollow in the inside.

We tasted the warm,soft and damp bread. As I bit into the bread it felt crunchy on the outside and moist in the middle but also quite mushy. The delicate crumbs crumbled down onto my lap but it was still so delicious.

I really liked the bread but I think it would be better if  we would have left it sit for a bit after it was cooked in the oven.

An Ice Blocks Choice

For the past term every Monday for maths we have been doing statistics.  First off we learnt what statistics was which was basically collecting data and putting it into graphs. So we have been making some graphs but first we learnt what some graphs were we learnt about pie,bar and strip graphs.After we started making some graphs I made two one is a pie graph and one is a bar graph.To make a graph we made a spread sheet and wrote our data in and then clicked insert ,chart and it magically transformed into a graph and from there I changed it to the graphs I wanted.  After I inserted my work into a doc and added some true statements.
