Gama Game

Today For hurumanu I created a game called GAMA GAME. I started off with creating the aim then how you score and so on and i kinda went overboard with this. Here is the game that I came up with. After we created our game we got put into groups of four and out of the four of us we chose one of games to play and test out.Unfortunately it wasn't my game but the game we played was still fun.

Gama Game

Object
The object of the game is to score points and win/get balls into their goal.

Players/Setup
There can be up to 10-20 players on each team plus 4 distractors .To set the game up need a area to play that is the size of a football field with

Equipment
  • 8-10 balls
  • something to mark where the goals are/cones,bags,sticks etc

Scoring
  • Get a ball  into their goal

  • Get someone out

Winning
  • be the last one left
  • The opposition team have 5 or more balls in their goal.

How to get out-
  • When one of the Teachers/game spectator/ref calls out Gama and you get hit with a ball.

  • When you throw the ball and hit a member of your team even if it's one of the distractors.

  • When there is more than 5 balls in your goal.

How to play- First off everyone that is playing gets lined up in one straight line and bows their head then someone thats not playing the game will chose 4 people to be the distractors without people knowing who they are (tap them on the shoulder) .Then everyone closes their eyes and the 4 distractors look up and see who the other distractors are. After that the person who isn’t playing in a random order selects the teams trying not to let people know (tap once to be in team 1 , Tap twice to be on team 2) when everyone has been put into teams you go to the ends of a rectangle field set up like a football BUT the four distractors can choose which end they go on even though their team could be on the opposite side. If someone in one of the distractors actual team hits them with a ball the distractor secretly tells them they are out. When someone says start everyone runs into the middle to get a ball and tries to put it into the opposition's goal. When someone yells out gama! Everyone has to try and throw the balls and try and hit a member of the opposing team. If you get hit with the ball you are out and must go to the side. You must do everything you can to stop the ball from getting into your goal most of all have fun!

Tanē Mahuta

Today for CIP me and three other students and Mark went around and looked at all the trees that had seeds. We then made our way to the back of the field so that we could look at the area that we are going to hopefully be planting lots of native trees to try and bring back the native birds. When we got back we wrote letters to someone called Steve Bush Asking him for 100 seedlings so that everyone doing this will have a plant to plant. Here is some photos of what we did and the letter.

Trees for Canterbury
42 Charlesworth st
Christchurch

Dear Mr Bush
Hi there, My name is Lucy i am currently a year 8 at Hornby High School.

Currently we have been working on a project called Tanē Mahuta. Our mission is to plant native  trees in the back of our field at school to hopefully bring back native birds that once lived here.
Today we went out and looked at all the seeds of the few trees we have here. We learnt about how they form into trees, how they spread and the different types of seeds.

We would like to ask you for one hundred seedlings so everyone involved in the Tanē Mahuta project can take part in planting the plants. We would also like to ask you for one trailor of used potting mix so that we can help grow the plants and use it to create more seeds and work towards our main goal.

Thank you for your consideration we can’t wait to hear back from you.
This is a photo of us at the area we are looking at planting the seedlings.
Sincerely

Lucy

DodgeBall Research

The past few weeks I have been working on researching about Dodgeball, how to play?, The Object of the game, how to score?, and what equipment you will need to play. I Filled out a template explaining the rules of dodgeball as well as how to play ect.

Dodgeball Rules
Written by: Lucy

Object

The object of the game is to throw the ball to try and get people on the opposite team out. You also have to dodge the balls that people throw at you so that you won’t get out.

Players

You need at least four people to play so you can slit the number and make two equal teams, otherwise you can have as many people as you want.

Equipment

The equipment you need is:
  • 3-10 balls or more (depends on the amount of players)
  • And a large flat space.

Scoring

In Dodgeball the way to score is to get someone out and you can get someone out by either catching the ball on the fall when they throw it,and you can also get them out if you throw the ball and it hits them from the shoulders down.

Winning

The way to win is to get all of the members of the other team out or to get get most of them out so that you have more players left then the other team.

Rules

  • If you get hit by the ball you must go to the other end of the playing field.

  • If you get out and catch the ball that was thrown by your team when you are at the opposite side you are back in and can keep playing.

  • If you throw the ball and someone catches it you are out and have to go to the other end of the playing field.

  • You can't kick the ball to try get someone out.

  • You can’t cross the line separating the two teams

  • If you are out and catch the all you have to return to your side of the field.

  • If you throw the ball when you are over the line you are out.

Tane Mahuta

Today we started CIP (Community Impact Projects)everyone got split into two main groups and i am in the group Tane Mahuta. Our job is to Clean and look after the school. Today we walked around areas of the school and got ideas of what we could do to make the place better for people to sit and play around in. My favourite area in the school is at the back of the field because because is quieter and there is a great place where you can sit in the shade if it gets to hot. After we walked around the school we came back and brainstorm some ideas of what we could create. My best idea is to improve the school is to create more fun seating areas and create more shady areas.

Activity 2
For this activity we have to post three facts that you learned about the Māui Dolphin.create three more statements about Māui dolphins that are not true and see if anyone can figure out which ones are true and which ones are false.

FACTS:

1. They can only be seen living in the North West Coast of the central and upper North Island areas.

2.The Māui Dolphin is the Smallest known dolphin in existence.

3.The Māui Dolphin can live for 30-35 years.

4.Māui Dolphin is also known as Popoto.

5.The Māui Dolphin is only found in New Zealand And in a few parts of Australia.

6.In some rare cases The Māui Dolphin can be born in a extremely dark shade of green.

Day 3 Taking Action Activity 1 SLJ

Activity 1
For this activity we have to watch three videos and then pick wich one we liked the most and why?

Predator Free Video #1: Cacophony Project
Predator Free Video #2: Taranaki Mounga Project
Predator Free Video #3: Zero Invasive Predators (ZIP)
My favourite video was the first video the Cacophony Project . I liked this video the most because they were using technology to create better traps and Sound systems to try and decrease how many possums there were to help protect the native birds. The best thing about this project is anyone can use the idea and then make it 2x better than it already is.
