The past lessons we have been looking at enterprising business people, one of the tasks was creating a slideshow on an enterprising person of our choice. I chose to research about Alexander Graham Bell who was the first person to create the telephone.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Digital Mihi
For the past week, we have have been working on our own mihi's. We got a choice to do it digitally or on paper in the form of a t-shirt, I choose to do it digitally because I prefer to do it digitally. During creating my mihi I had to do some research about my river and my mountain which I thought was really cool as I didn't even know I had one. In the end, I struggled to pictures of my family but after searching through my very messy drive I ended up finding some from a party that we hosted, that is why they are all dressed up in the photos.
My river is the Avon River Which runs through Christchurch, And my mountain is Mt Cook which I have actually visited while on a trip with my family to The Westcoast. One of my hobbies is cooking, One of my favorite things to cook is Apple crumble which is good when it comes to feeding the whole family. My other hobbies include reading, I usually read Disaster, crime, and fantasy books but I have started reading non-fiction lately. My parent's names are Simon and Francine and they both come from New Zealand, My sibling's names are Zoe who is 17 this year, Ella who is 15 this year, and Hollie who is 11 this year. It has been really weird as we are all at the same school for the first time!

The Treaty Of Waitangi
Today we were learning about the treaty of Waitangi. I looked at the timeline of things happening and what the conditions of the treaty were. I also learned about the wars that took place and why they happened.
Why is the treaty so important - The treaty is important to New Zealand because it accepts that Māori iwi (tribes) have the right to organize themselves, protect their way of life and to control the resources they own. It also states that Maori will have the same rights as the British and the queen would protect them.

SETTING SAIL!
For this activity, make a list of ten food items that you could take with you on your journey out to sea. Remember to think carefully about what you would take as you won’t have access to a refrigerator or freezer while at sea. Explain why you selected each food item.
Food Number 1 -
The first item of food I would choose would be Canned Tuna as it doesn’t need to be kept in a refrigerator and it gives you high-quality protein and vitamin D.
Food Number 2 -
The second food item I would take is canned beans as they would last the whole trip and will give you protein and iron. And they would make a great Breakfast!
Food Number 3 -
The third food item would be Canned Vegetables because they have all the health benefits of fresh vegetables.
Food Number 4 -
The next food item I would choose to take is beef jerky! This would be a great snack (or a meal ) As I LOVE beef jerky! One of the benefits of beef jerky is that it gives around seven grams of protein per piece.
Food Number 5 -
The next food item is cereal (Weetbix, sultana bran, Special K, etc) Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, cereal contains energy, carbohydrate, protein, and fiber which will help maintain a healthy diet.
Food Number 6 -
Milk powder is the next thing I would take on the journey. Milk powder is milk dried into a powder and turns into milk when mixed with water. Milk powder can last up to 2 - 10 years! Three cups of milk a day will meet daily nutritional needs.
Food Number 7 -
My next food item would be Potatoes as they can last up to 4-5 weeks (so the internet says.) Potatoes can also be eaten raw or cooked and can make a delicious lunch when is eaten with baked beans!
Food Number 8 -
Dried Pasta is my next food item as it can last up to 1-2 years and would make a great healthy nutritional dinner!
Food Number 9 -
My next food item would be tomato-based pasta sauce to go with the dried pasta and can be stored outside a fridge and can last for around a year without being opened and around 3 weeks if it has been opened but is still sealed tightly.
Food Number 10 -
The last food item I would pick would be rice. Rice can last outside a fridge for 4-5 years! Rice can be eaten with pretty much anything and can be eaten for any meal of the day!

LED LIGHTING!
For the past week, we have been working on yet another fun project. The Item that we made is an LED light stand when it is plugged in will light up the acrylic strip. We started off by glueing five strips of wood together, then threading the LED ribbon through the gap in the wood. We then finished our project off by designing and laser cutting our stips of acrylic. This was a very cool project and the end product turned out AMAZING, this was a lot of fun to do.

Renewable Energy
Aim: To make a presentation that investigates different renewable energy.
Section 1: Title Page
Section 2: Definitions
Hydro Energy
Hydro Energy is created when water rushes through the dam and pushes a turbine which creates electricity.
Solar Energy
Solar energy is created from light and heat from the sun which is harnessed by a solar panel or other objects.
Wind Energy
Wind energy is the use of wind to provide mechanical power through turbines to turn electric generators which creates energy.
Wave Energy
Wave energy is created when people harness the current of the waves to create energy.
Section 3; Investigate each of the 4 Energy types.
(Hydro, Solar, Wind, Wave )
Hydro-
Wind-
Solar-
Wave-
Section 4: Renewable Energy in the future.
List 10 ways that renewable energy will be used in the future to replace our current activities.
Electric Cars
Electric Heating
Using renewable energy for trains
Electric public transport
Electronic machines (Robots, production machines)
Electronic Machines (diggers, etc)
Renewable energy Factories
Renewable energy household items (ovens, fridges, etc)
Renewable energy light bulbs
Renewable energy outlets (Powers phones, computers, etc)
My Carbon Foot Print Pledge

Today in Science we got given a sheet which we colored in, in blue what we are currently doing. Then in pink, we color in what we want to start doing. Five things that I want to start doing are. 1. to check labels of food to try and buy more local foods. 2. To shop as little as possible and am considerate of the environment. 3. To reduce the amount of meat I consume. 4. Use energy-efficient light bulbs and turn everything off every chance I get. 5. To conserve water every chance I get. Those were the five things that I want to start doing to shrink my carbon footprint.
